Green Building

Windhill Builders brings common sense green and sustainable building practices to our projects, while maintaining an emphasis on value, quality materials, and superior craftsmanship. We promote a “whole building” approach to sustainability including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design.

Green homes have much higher energy performance levels than homes built to the standard building codes, reducing energy consumption and costs. We build all green homes to the rigorous Energy Star standard.

Our green homes provide environmentally conscious peace of mind as well as a higher standard of living. By building green you will experience a quieter and more comfortable home. Green homes are win for both the homeowner and the planet..

Not All Green Builds Are Equal

Any builder can slap a green building standard sticker on a house and call it green. This does not mean that all green homes are equal in terms of sustainability. We build all of our green homes to the rigorous Energy Star standards. These are some of the most strenuous green building standards in all of residential construction.

Homes with the Energy Star label provide assurance that your home has withstood the rigorous environmental and sustainability tests and inspections. It means that your home will help reduce your carbon footprint. Your heating and cooling systems will use less energy at a lower cost, while adding increased comfort. The Energy Star label also means that your home will hold a resale value that is exponentially higher than average.

It’s not an easy standard to build to, but the best things in life are not easy. We understand the impact and importance of green homes and how they benefit both the planet, and our communities. That’s why we build to the Energy Star standard. To ensure that our green homes stand the test of time, and keep your family warm and dry through generations to come.

Energy Efficient

Our green homes are some of the most energy efficient homes you will find in New England. Reducing your carbon footprint also means reducing your energy bills. Here is how our green building process is helping persevere our world and our community.

We begin each green home build by digging a geo-thermal foundation that uses the earth to provide a heating and cooling system that is energy efficient by cutting down on the electricity consumption of your HVAC system.

From there, we install continuous layers of high performance thermal insulation that is uninterrupted by the framing of the home. This ensures that heat will not leak through exterior walls, as well as reduces any outside noise. Warmer in winter, and cooler in the summer. All while using less energy.

The attic space on our green homes are built with both ventilation and filtration in mind.

We build each attic to both regulate air flow and temperature, while also blocking out harmful outdoor pollutants. Increased airflow means more circulation, and further cuts down on energy consumption by your HVAC system.

When it comes to installing windows, our green homes use only the highest performing glass that traps in more natural heat and keeps you warm in the winter, while refracting UV light to keep you cool in the summer. This further reduces the environmental heating and cooling costs.

Our green homes are proven to keep your family more comfortable, no matter the season. Many of our green builds feature open floor plans. The more open your living space is, the more easily air can circulate. They are also great for entertaining guests, and gathering around for a holiday meal. Comfort, style, sustainable, and energy efficient. That’s what our green homes provide.

Responsible Site Management and Waste Reduction

Our commitment to green building starts with responsible site management and reducing construction waste at the start, middle, and end of the build. We strive to reduce waste through careful planning of all materials and making sure that the minimal amount of waste that is generated is responsibly recycled.

We also make a point of marking all healthy trees at the site and do our best to keep them intact by working around them instead of removing them. We also utilize mesh fencing where there is an erosion concern.

The first step in our green building process is an initial consultation. If you are interested in building a home that is environmentally sustainable, offers maximum comfort, and reduces your carbon footprint then contact us today. We have the industry experience and reputation to help guide you home.
